Fishing Has No Boundaries Inc. (FHNB Inc.) was founded in Hayward, Wisconsin by a local fishing guide in 1986. Its goal is simply: To open the great outdoors for people with disabilities through the world of fishing ... a sport most of us take for granted.
The first event was held in 1988 on the Chippewa Flowage near Hayward. About 75 persons from seven states participated in this initial event. In 1995, the Hayward Event had 244 disabled participants and over 700 volunteers.
It is doubtful that the originators of FHNB knew the extent of the impact they would have on people with disabilities. What began as a dream, has now developed into a series of events that can touch the hearts and lives of disabled and able-bodied persons alike. The concept unquestionably increases the quality of life for both groups of people.
In 1999, Park Taylor and Sharon Zurek took an all volunteer video crew to document the Hayward event. They came back with stories that touched their hearts and presented the organization with a video documentary to help them increase their volunteer and sponsorship base.
